What is sublimated uniforms?

Dye Sublimation is the best choice for custom teamwear and custom sports uniforms.

Sublimation printing is the process of transferring dye to a fabric using heat. An image or design is printed on a special transfer paper. The transfer paper is placed on the fabric and heat is applied, and allows the ink to become part of the fabric. (This process works best with 100% polyester fabrics) This will leave you with a more breathable, soft feel to the fabric. The best part is that with individual names, numbers and graphics do not peel off or come out in the wash.

Some apparel decorators call it dye-sub or dye sublimation printing. Sublimation printing is a versatile, digital printing method that opens up a wide range of opportunities with custom sports uniforms.

Sublimation ensures the most vibrant colors and cheapest for sublimated sports uniforms.

SUBLIMATION PROCESS

Dye sublimation is a process of printing (as well as other substances) that provides the highest quality, most durable printing option for sublimated teamwear. In sublimation the inks are transferred into the fabric as opposed to sitting on top of the fabric such as a heat transfer or screenprinting. The sublimation process not only gives fabrics a softer touch after printing but it is also very durable. The color remains vibrant in outdoor lighting and after extensive washing. Sublimation is the ideal process for custom sublimated teamwear.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

There are many benefits thanks to the sublimation process.

  1. Full colour on small runs. Unlike screen printing, there is no need for seperate screens, films or a great deal of setup for sublimation uniforms. Though you may well need to have us refine your art, the process thereafter is straightforward, and on smaller orders may prove less expensive overall than screen printing.
  2. Less need for minimum orders. We are more likely able to accomodate a smaller order or re-order when you sublimate teamwear, due to the reduced amount of setup required to print your product.
  3. Individual Customization. Though art charges may apply for this level of customization, seeing as each garment is printed from it’s own transfer rather than in large runs on the same set of screens, this method makes it much easier to add individual customization to each printed item.
  4. Lighter hand. The nature of sublimated teamwear means that prints are never heavy or thick. The garment is unchanged by the process, save for the addition of your art.
  5. Durability. There is no cracking or peeling in a sublimated uniforms, they last just as long as the garment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dye sublimated (also known as Sublimation/Custom Sublimation/Sublimated Sports Uniforms) is an amazing printing technique that allows for the most vibrant, full color and sports uniforms with an all over print to custom sports uniforms and apparel.

Artwork is printed onto a sheet of high release paper and transferred onto the fabric using heat and pressure. The heat converts the solid dye particles into a gas, this process is known as sublimation. The dye is absorbed by the fabric for a softer feel.

When we describe a sports uniform or garment as sublimated, we are referring to the process which dyes are applied to the fabric. The dye sublimation printing process uses heat to transfer dye into the fabric, because dyes bond well with polyester it is possible to produce vibrant images and colours.

Sublimation printing can be applied to polyester, nylon, lycra, and spandex. However the most vibrant print is produced from fabrics with a high polyester blend some other fabrics that are printed may be more dull or bleed more in comparison to polyester.

You cannot do sublimation on 100% cotton. Sublimation is best done on 100% polyester or high blend polyester fabrics.

You can use a special ink for cotton shirts however it is not the same process however the process is very similar.

When anything solid turns into a gas without becoming a liquid first, this process is called sublimation.

For example when the surface layer of snow or ice turns into fog or steam without melting, this is an example of  sublimation.

This process is exactly the same when creating sublimated sports uniforms because the ink is solid on paper and turned into a gas which is then transferred to fabric.

The verb sublimation is from the latin word sublimare, meaning “raised to a higher status.”

Dye sublimation requires heat to change the ink on special transfer paper from a solid state to a gaseous state to transfer to a fabric using heat and pressure.

Dye sublimation printing produces beautiful and permanent colors that are embedded inside the custom sports uniform or fabric rather than printed on the surface. (like screen printing or heat seal transfers) The design or images on your sports uniforms won’t fade or crack even after washing multiple times.

Some of our clients still have uniforms from ten years ago that are the same vibrancy as they were when they were printed.

We do not have a minimum order requirement, however your order will be cheaper at a higher quantity.
